Designer biography:
Yuka Ishikawa is a Japan-based contemporary jewelry artist exploring material transformation, controlled instability, and the passage of time. Self-taught since 2016, she creates sculptural works in silver, gemstones, and fired enamels, characterized by weight, distortion, and a quiet sense of decay. Her surfaces resist stillness, embracing chemical change and aging. Each work exists not as a static object, but as a moment within an ongoing material life. She was awarded 2nd Prize in the Art & Jewellery category at the Florence Biennale 2025 and selected for Slovenian Jewellery Week 2026.
Collection concept:
“Everlasting Abyss” explores the coexistence of decay and endurance. By applying fired glaze to silver, I allow surfaces to peel and transform over time, revealing a return to material origin. Rooted in my experience of atopic dermatitis, where my skin repeatedly peels beyond my control, this work reflects how breakdown reshapes the self. I see peeling and collapse not as loss, but as necessary processes of transformation. It reflects a fragile persistence of beauty within processes of decay and change. Even as forms change or fade, an enduring essence remains. The abyss emerges as a space of transformation—suggesting that what seems to vanish may enter another stage of becoming.
