Designer biography:
Xianbin Guo is a first-year student at Cranbrook Academy of Art. He received a BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and participated in multiple entomology research projects at the Institute of Zoology in Beijing. He is now exploring the intersection of biology and craft-based art. His research engages concepts such as decomposition, reproduction, and nutrient cycles in nature, while his work investigates scientific formats and the sensations that scientific processes produce.
Collection concept:
I found that science, for me, has two parts: Truth and Knowledge. Of course, truth matters. Science needs premises and conditions, and theorems should be defined or proved. But the deeper I go into science, the more I feel that truth can sometimes be boring. Humans only know a small part of the world, and what we know is never the full view. Then why is science still so fascinating and beautiful? For me, it is the beauty of knowledge, how phenomena are observed, organized, and presented as a logical system. Even without knowing whether something is ultimately true, it can still be beautiful when knowledge takes shape in alternate forms to those of “science” —a non-cognitive knowledge.
