Designer biography:
Born in Leuven, Belgium, Sofie Van Belle is a contemporary jewellery artist and educator based in Hasselt. After studying Fine Arts and later ‘Object & Jewellery’ at PXL-MAD, she developed a practice situated between wearable object and sculptural art. Her work explores tensions between hardness and softness, transparency and opacity, fragility and strength through unconventional materials such as plexiglass, rubber coating, textiles and minerals. The recurring oval shape functions as a quiet visual language, creating spaces where contrast, vulnerability and balance coexist.

“Quiet Presence”
These brooches explore the presence of stillness. Transparent plexiglass creates an open space rather than a closed form. A stylised thermoformed flower, rubber coating, pyrite and drifting crinoline establish a dialogue between concealment and revelation, weight and lightness, structure and freedom. The recurring oval acts as a gentle boundary that frames, without enclosing. The works do not seek to fill a void. Instead, they suggest that emptiness itself can become a place of quiet presence; a space where nothing needs to happen for meaning to emerge.
