Sarah Drew - Precious Collective
Sarah Drew
Designer biography:
Living in St Austell, Cornwall means Sarah can spend plenty of time outdoors on local beaches, the old clay pits & in the woods with her family & dogs Bert & Jade, collecting materials, writing poetry & getting inspiration for things to make which she loves. Using recycled materials & basically ‘rubbish’ in this way is a sustainable way of creating unique pieces that aren’t a strain on new resources & whose material components are traceable & recyclable.
Collection concept:
This is not Food': a collection made from beach-found plastic, rubber and ghost-net coupled with recycled silver & copper; is a comment on plastic pollution in our seas. The circles on the ‘Chain of Consequence’ necklace and bangle symbolise the water cycle & how our lives are intrinsically linked to nature. The plastic we throw into the sea that’s eaten by fish, poisons us when we eat the fish or just drink water: ‘what goes around comes around’. But it’s quite a bright, hopeful collection as it recognises that we’re clearing beaches and can solve plastic pollution. Ideally wearing the pieces will start conversations & encourage people to care about marine environments.
