Designer biography:
Vanessa Ree is an Irish fine jewellery artist whose practice is rooted in conceptual exploration and contemporary design. Working primarily in precious metals, she creates sculptural jewellery that operates as a form of visual language creating pieces that puts the wearer at the heart, symbolising cultural memory & identity. Each collection emerges from a defined thematic investigation. Through simplicity of form, graphic lines and a restrained aesthetic, Vanessa constructs pieces that are easy to understand yet offer a depth of meaning. Her process reflects a dialogue between modern technical design methods with traditional goldsmithing techniques, resulting in contemporary statements that retain intimacy and tactility.
Collection concept
There are two types of people in the world - Radiators and Drains.
The latter sucks all the energy from you and the former makes you feel loved, joyful and warm! Choosing to be a “radiator,” the Sunburst Collection celebrates hope, positivity, and human connection—qualities that feel increasingly rare in a turbulent world. While rooted in my practice of metal jewellery, this series seeks a visual expression of joy through the use of gold rutilated quartz, a gemstone coveted for its luminous internal strands. Using the traditional Keum Boo technique to fuse gold to silver, the pieces amplify the stone’s natural radiance, creating a warm dialogue between metals and uniquely cut gemstones. The overall impact is the creation of a collection that represents what we need more of in our world today - beauty, hope and positivity.
