Designer biography:
Tonatiuh is a Mexico City based artist whose practice moves between sculpture, drawing and painting; born in Mexico and raised across different regions of the country, his work is shaped by the diverse cultures and cosmologies he encountered along the way. His artistic path began in urban art and graffiti, leading him to paint independent murals in private and public spaces. Trained in Industrial Design, he later specialized in jewelry and metalwork, creating pieces for clients and institutions while collaborating in studios in NY and exhibiting through platforms in Mexico such as Design Week Mexico and other independent spaces. Today his work merges crac, material experimentation and the body into contemporary narratives.
Collection concept:
Comic garden originates from a simple childhood gesture: pressing plasticine through a sieve to form delicate strands. Revisiting this memory: I translate that playful action into a material investigation, experimenting with metals and diverse substances to observe how weight, tension and color shape organic growth. The resulting structures branch and undulate like coral reef ecosystems that emerge from fragility through accumulation and time. Suspended between the familiar and speculative, the pieces evoke both marine life and imagined extraterrestrial landscapes, transforming childhood act of play into a reflection of transformation and the hidden architectures of living systems.
