László Szlávics Jr.
Designer biography:
He graduated from the Vocational School of Fine and Applied Arts in Budapest in 1977. He continued his art studies privately under the guidance of the goldsmith-sculptor László Szlávics Sr. and the sculptor Memos Makris. From 1975 to the present, his works have been presented in twenty-four countries. His medals, sculptures, and jewelry can be seen in nearly twenty public collections at home and abroad. Some of these include: Hungarian National Gallery, Hungarian Museum of Applied Arts, Rijksmuseum Het Koninklijk Penningkabinet Leiden, (NL); British Museum, London, (GB). He achieved his first international success in Japan: 1996 9th Cloisonne Jewelry Contest Tokyo, Encouragement Prize. Most recently, he received the Collector's Award at the Personal Narrative Spaces international jewelry exhibition held in Szentendre (H) in 2024.
Collection concept:
With the jewelry series Summer Memory, I tried to show the coexistence of technical civilization and untouched nature. I tried to shape jewelry from simple “valueless” pebbles found in the natural environment with minimal intervention. I made rings from pebbles found on the riverbank, which thus become carriers of experiences experienced during nature walks. I transformed the forms created by nature into unique jewelry with the help of industrial technology. I tried to create a harmony between the contrast of processing and untouched natural shapes.
