Designer biography:
Fangjing Hu is a jewellery artist based in the UK, trained in traditional goldsmithing and contemporary jewellery design. She has experience working in both high jewellery production and independent studio practice. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including Romanian Jewellery Week, and selected for Handwerk & Design during Munich Jewellery Week. She is also the designer of the City of Birmingham Medal and a recipient of the GCDC Gold Award and Boodles Award. Her practice bridges material-based making and conceptual exploration within contemporary jewellery.
Collection concept:
Breathing Forms, originates from an imagined understanding of the ocean. Growing up inland, my perception of marine life is constructed through fragments from films and literature. These forms are incomplete and partial—like sections of coral or isolated elements of unknown creatures—which I reconstruct through imagination. They do not replicate reality, but translate distance and absence into physical form.
