Designer biography:

Tania Vásquez is a Chilean artist, sculptor, jeweller and craftswoman who uses diverse elements to create micro-spaces where details, colours and small landscapes with multiple meanings converge. A graduate of the Universidad de Concepción's Fine Arts programme, she has cultivated a profound interest in cultural heritage, Chilean craftsmanship and its multifaceted expressions. Horsehair weaving serves as her primary source of inspiration and a medium through which she has exhibited at various fairs and exhibitions in Chile, Mexico and Italy. At the Milano Jewelry Week 2024, she was honoured with the Best Contemporary Jewellery Award from the ACJ and the Artistar Jewels Network Award from the Roop & Form Gallery.

Collection concept:

In CONFLUENCE, the craft traditions of basketry and goldsmithing complement each other to reinforce the symbolic character of the new protective breastplate, which maintains the stratified structure of the Mapuche Sükill and incorporates, suspended in the void, a concentric composition of horsehair as an image of an inner pulse and latency. The Sükill is a silver breastplate that represents the dialogue between different layers of reality. It is in the Wenu Mapu that the ancestors and spirits of the ethereal superior reside, giving strength and support to continue life. The circular weave of the horsehair weave comes from the deep tradition of the mestizo peasantry. The weaving with a single strand draws a spiral weave that goes from the centre to the meeting of the world. Both traditions converge in a new concept.
