Ramona Popescu - Romania
Ramona Popescu
Designer biography:
With a degree in Economics, a PhD in management and a teaching career in Economics for 15 years, Ramona Popescu started studying the art of jewelry with David Sandu and Andreia Gabriela Popescu at Assamblage, the Institute of Art and Design from Bucharest in 2019. Since 2021, Mrs. Popescu has exhibited at contemporary jewelry exhibitions in the country (ROJW, five editions) and abroad (1st Contemporary Jewelry Biennial Lisbon 2021, VI and VIII Muestra de Orfebrería Contemporánea de Madrid 2022 and 2024, Milano Jewelry Week 2022, Inflow Expo Hungary 2024). The main inspiration for her jewelry is nature, with its shapes and colors, but she considers that jewelry is also a means to expose ideas about human feelings. Ramona uses working methods and techniques, such as construction, centrifugal casting, keum-boo and different crocheting methods.
Collection concept:
IN BLOOM – the collection reflects and pays homage to spring and summer, seasons when flowers bring us joy through color, shape and scent. The technique used is mainly that of crocheting with metallic thread, in different techniques and modeling methods, but all with the same goal, to reflect flowers into jewelry.
GEOGRAPHY OF MY SOUL – This collection explores the infinite possibilities that wax processing can offer in its multiple variations, from sculpting, to the Mitsuro Hikime technique or other creative ways of giving it shape, but also the novel variants of combining the pieces obtained in this way with other components, such as knitted metallic thread or pearls and stones. The fluidity of the pieces, their ability to reflect feelings and experiences, creates context for different configurations, giving the pieces meaning and sentimental value.
