Designer biography:

Contemporary jeweller Muirhead creates one-of-a-kind pieces inspired by unknown narratives of fragmented found objects & non-precious materials. Her work evokes memory & nostalgia, offering new purpose & context to elements with a past. With a background in fine arts & interior architecture, she discovered a passion for jewellery through its tactile process, intimate scale & design potential. Many of her pieces evolve from the challenge of transforming common materials collected over the yrs, objects chosen for their history, patina, or graphic nature, thoughtfully celebrating them by being presented as jewellery. Originally American she spent over 20yrs in Italy concentrating on metalworking & teaching at University level before moving to Spain.

Collection concept:  Instruments of Measurement

I’m drawn to the graphic qualities of vintage measuring tools, tape measures, rulers, folding construction rulers, architect’s scales, levels, dials & drafting instruments. These objects used to define space & distance, bring precision to everyday life. This series frames visual & tactile details in silver 'Measure twice, cut once' is a familiar saying in a world where physical mistakes can’t be undone with a digital command. These standardised instruments define our sense of relativity yet when segmented their utility & meaning shift. I enjoy exploring how these references to measurement can be transformed into wearable art especially when a piece might still serve as an emergency measuring device while being worn!
