SMCK ON REEL - JEWELRY AND THE MOVING IMAGE

Loukia Richards and Christoph Ziegler, publishers of SMCK Magazine and SMCK On Reel, talk about video, photography and the importance of storytelling and narrative for the contemporary jewelry art sector.

In the 28-minute video "Jewelry and The Moving Image", Richards and Ziegler explain how they started to curate international jewelry shows and why they founded the video festival SMCK On Reel. The artist duo introduce the viewer to their own jewelry practice, the concepts and choice of materials and techniques. They also give a critical account of the jewelry art market, galleries and fairs.

SMCK Magazine aims at highlighting the society oriented contemporary arts and crafts sector, and serves as a trends scout for contemporary jewelry. SMCK Magazine also ambitions to introduce artists and crafters to the complicated international discourse on ecology, economy, social changes and cultural hegemony.

The film was shown at ROJW special edition in Chisinau.
