Sau-Lun Yeung is a Hong Kong/UK multidisciplinary artist, contemporary jeweler, and founder of @thepolskatraveller. An RCA MA graduate, his practice fuses silversmithing with bio-materials. His award-winning collection, "Cabinet of Symbiosities," investigates the UK-British Hong Kong relationship. By growing mycelium and crystals onto found London artifacts and insect specimens, he explores colonialism and identity mutation. His work has been exhibited across Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Romania, Italy, the UK, and Germany, including at Munich Jewellery Week, Venice Design Week, and AUTOR, turning organic decay into cultural commentary.
Collection concept:
“Cabinet of Symbiosities” investigates the complex historical relationship between the United Kingdom and British Hong Kong. Sparked by found artifacts in London bearing forgotten colonial symbols, the collection explores themes of colonialism and parasitism through material mutation. Yeung blends scientific inquiry with jewelry art by growing living mycelium networks and crystalline structures directly onto historical insect specimens, intentionally blurring their physical identities. Integrated into intricate silversmithing designs inspired by the British Hong Kong Coat of Arms, these altered lifeforms act as visceral metaphors for geopolitical symbiosis and identity change.
