Legnica Silver Festival
34th International Jewellery Competition EVERY BODY
Jewellery is an object designed in relation to the body and created for it. Yet, at times, it exposes itself, treating the body only as a pretext and a background. On this occasion, we wish to turn our attention to the corporeal dimension and context of jewellery. Let the body become a pretext for material or intellectual interpretation, for artistic elaboration, transformation, and the expansion of boundaries. A centre for reflection on the surrounding world and the crises affecting it. An object of political attention, a product of commercialisation and commodification. A medium that opens up an organic, social, humanistic and post-anthropocentric perspective. Let the body speak of jewellery, and jewellery speak of the body.

I wish to show that hair does not define a person. We remain ourselves, even as our hair changes or when we lose it. I respond to the pervasive stigmatisation of women’s hair – and, in truth, of appearance and social expectations more broadly. We belong to ourselves, not to society, with or without hair, even as social media and marketing campaigns attempt to convince us that appearance determines our value and that we must conform to nonsensical ideals of beauty. Female beauty has many faces. Changes made under pressure will never bring us happiness; we will not find inner strength or a sense of worth in them. These can only be found within ourselves. I chose to shift hair into a new position – to transform the metaphorical crown of beauty into a literal one. Yet at the moment it becomes a crown, it loses its sanctity. It ceases to be attractive and becomes simply unsettling, even repellent. My crown is inspired by those awarded to beauty pag eant winners, where all of the above issues become materialised. The work is completed by a video recording of the act of shaving the head. The first part responds to the rapid and distorted world of social media; the second is an authentic recording of cutting the hair.

This work emerges from the experience of a body shaped by medical intervention – a body that has been altered, regulated, and concealed within public space. The ileostomy bag – an object designed to manage the body, to normalise it and render it invisible – becomes the central material of the brooch. The brooch functions as a material trace of intervention and survival, carrying the physical and social imprint of a transformed body. It operates as testimony rather than ornament. My personal experience of ileostomy was, for a long time, bound to strategies of adaptation and concealment. This work marks a transition from invisibility to visibility. It is not an act of provocation, but a conscious gesture of acknowledgement – an affirmation of the presence of a body that does not conform to normative expectations. The work underscores that all bodies – regardless of medical modification or social status – are valid, present, and entitled to visibility. Jewellery becomes a medium through which the body asserts its right to be seen and recognised.

The Ladies series addresses the female body as a space burdened by cultural, social, and political meanings. Abstract forms of breasts have been roughly carved in stone. Their diversity, asymmetry, and rawness refer to the multiplicity of female bodies that exist beyond media-driven ideals. A tension emerges between archaic symbolism and contemporary body politics. How does identity shift when this visible marker of femininity is lost or transformed? Women who lose their breasts, or experience changes to them due to illness, age, or biographical turning points, are often confronted with a latent questioning of their gender identity.

Rather than idealising beauty, the work centres on unfiltered emotion. The object is based on a digital scan of my own face, which I have transformed into a piece of jewellery. Its setting is composed of scanned objects from my childhood, creating a dialogue between memory, identity, and vulnerability. The earrings function as emotional prostheses – extensions of the body that give form to feelings and expressions not always visible or socially accepted.

A tailor’s measuring tape is used to measure. To provide data expressed in units of length. Its measurement is entirely impartial in its mathematical nature. So why is it sometimes so deeply resented? Many people, women in particular, still feel anxiety at the thought of measuring the circumference of their waist, hips, or thighs. In a world that supposedly opposes body shaming, size XXS still dominates on catwalks and the covers of fashion magazines. Under such inhuman expectations, the measure always shows too much, always too much… A tailor’s tape measures — it does not judge. A social centimeter will always show “too much”.
