Contemporia x Aici a Stat

The Cella Earrings were created in collaboration between AICI A STAT and Contemporia, an independent contemporary jewelry studio founded in Bucharest in 2014, where design, storytelling and craftsmanship come together in objects made to be worn.

When I began thinking about a pair of earrings for Ana Rubeli, founder of the AICI A STAT Festival, whose 2026 edition is dedicated to Cella Delavrancea, my first thought was to return to the pianist’s memoirs. They reveal a world in which culture was not an occasion, but a natural state of being. Cella grew up surrounded by music, literature and some of the remarkable personalities of her time. I imagine that this effortless proximity to beauty and value shaped a taste free of ostentation. I see her as sensitive and curious, but also practical and independent.

This is where the jewelry began: with rhythm, proportion and versatility. A simple geometric base can be worn on its own, while three interchangeable extensions alter its proportions, movement and rhythm. Pearls remain the constant element — an expression of elegance beyond trends. The geometry also alludes to Cella’s relationship with her sister, Henrieta Delavrancea, one of Romania’s first women architects. Music and architecture meet through rhythm, structure and sequence: one organizes sound in time, the other space as we move through it.

I like to imagine Cella wearing these earrings to a soirée or a gala. The earrings are dedicated to Ana Rubeli, in whose work architectural heritage and classical music come together once again.
