Yusi is a contemporary jewellery designer who is new to the field. She seeks to present cherished memories closely tied to emotions, using materials, forms, and details that have been “warmed by the skin,” along with the sensory experiences they evoke, in a perceptible, tactile way. This act of creation is itself a form of art. By expressing humility through contemporary jewellery, Yusi aims to break creative boundaries and seek unique innovation. This humility is evident not only in her choice and treatment of materials but also in her approach to design. Humility allows Yusi to embrace various possibilities with an open mind, fostering continuous innovation in her creations. Through her work, she hopes to inspire viewers to re-examine everyday materials and objects, recognising their hidden potential and beauty. Humility, for Yusi, represents not only a deep respect for materials but also a profound understanding of the creative process and the final piece.
Collection concept:
Drawing inspiration from my childhood memories, I created the conceptual jewelry piece Hidden Treasure. When I was young, my grandmother often made small wallets from old, worn-out socks and distributed them to every member of the family. These wallets, though marked by the passage of time and perhaps even considered "ugly," were believed by my grandmother to be both durable and practical. As a child, I felt embarrassed by these unsightly wallets, and they were often the subject of ridicule. I would discreetly pull money from my pocket when making payments, trying to avoid drawing attention. However, over the past two decades, these seemingly unattractive "sock wallets" have become an indelible part of my memory, and they have grown into a deeply meaningful connection between my grandmother and me. What started as a simple container has evolved into a medium that carries emotional significance, symbolizing the reuse of waste and acceptance of imperfection.Hidden Treasure is more than just a piece of jewelry; it is a tribute to the concept of "clumsy fashion" and a celebration of the small, awkward moments in life. Everyday mistakes and embarrassing moments are often viewed as signs of imperfection, yet they are, in fact, the birthplace of wisdom and the origin of creativity. Through this design, I aim to transform these often-overlooked "clumsy moments" into a piece of jewelry filled with humor and vitality, showcasing that even in moments of imperfection, we can find beauty, creativity, and joy. I hope that those who wear this piece not only experience the emotions and wisdom it carries but also share this sense of humor and positivity with others. Through this piece, I wish to convey that whether in life’s mistakes or in moments of damage and loss, there lies a unique beauty and wisdom, waiting to be discovered and cherished.
