Designer biography:
Smaranda Isar is a versatile artist who combines silversmithing with a variety of ceramic materials and techniques to create contemporary jewelry and art pieces. Her work pushes the boundaries of traditional jewelry-making while remaining grounded in natural materials, transforming them into a medium of artistic expression that conveys emotions, tells stories, and fosters cultural dialogue. Smaranda has exhibited her creations both nationally and internationally, including at Munich Jewelry Week 2024 as part of the Assamblaj group curated by Andreea Gabriela Popescu, and at Slovenian Jewelry Week 2025, where she participated as a member of the ROJW Collective.
Collection concept:
The “Drives” collection is an invitation to pause amidst our chaotic rhythms and observe the fundamental impulses of the unconscious that shape our behaviors, encouraging us to become aware of them. Each piece of jewelry is designed to evoke an archetype or myth—one that can be recognized within ourselves. By integrating these forces of the collective unconscious into consciousness, they can become sources of self-awareness and dialogue. These symbols explore how drives—desires, fears, and inner conflicts—take form as deities or mythological forces, reflecting the shadowy and uncontrollable aspects of the psyche. Like the gods and heroes of myth, these drives are both creative and destructive, serving as sources of motivation, yet also chaos when left unconscious.
