Minjeong Kim
Designer biography:
Minjeong Kim is a multidisciplinary artist based between Seoul and London. She graduated from the MA Jewellery & Metal at the Royal College of Art, where she developed a practice centered on body sculpture. Her work interweaves evolving sensations to explore the depth of human existence both individually and socially. Through themes of barriers, symbolism, and ephemerality, she reveals the complexity of social structures and bodily presence. Starting from embodied experience and returning to the body as a site of inquiry, her work challenges the conventional notion of jewellery as mere adornment in today’s society. Moving fluidly across sculpture, performance, jewellery Minjeong constructs a sensorial and conceptual dialogue that redefines how we perceive the body within contemporary art.
Collection concept:
The "Fragile Barrier" project explores not only the behaviours themselves but also the emotions and reasons behind them. One of the most significant causes of compulsive behaviour is an increased sensitivity to various unexpected sensory stimuli, particularly touch. In response to this, Minjeong began to construct barriers as a form of mental self-protection, which manifested repeatedly as compulsive behaviours. Through this project, these barriers are gradually revealed, expressing the process and the associated uncomfortable emotions through physical work. This project also reflects a gradual progression, as these protective barriers begin to integrate with the external world. This progression mirrors the artist’s journey of confronting and expressing her own discomfort and sensitivities.
