Designer biography:

Aysa Posthuma (AYSA ANNA – Contemporary Jewelry)

I have been working as a professional goldsmith and visual artist since 2018. Having completed my studies in Art History at Groningen University, I decided to attend the Goldsmith Academy in Amsterdam. I have had the opportunity to visit Alchimia - Contemporary Jewellery School in Florence in 2021 and 2022 where I acquired new techniques and further honed my craft. Growing up as the daughter of an artist nourished my curiosity for using ready-made and alternative materials. Jewelry has been my childhood passion and ultimately became my canvas. By intertwining my upbringing, academic background, and craftsmanship, I create (un)wearable art. My goal is to make artifacts that are visually pleasing, surprise viewers, and are technically well-executed. My artistic signature can be described as eclectically, now and then minimalisitic, with playful touches. The duality of working on commissions with a semi carte blanche and executing autonomous ideas serves as the perfect fuel for my creative mind. This constant interplay allows me to continuously explore and express my artistic vision. In my I designs aim to capture the essence of the world around us and reinterpret it in a timeless and modern way.

Collection concept:

Paper (L)imitations

The quest of the "Messed up" Origami collection can be summed up as imitating paper in silver. It aims to preserve the visual properties of paper while overcoming its limitations in terms of portability and durability by changing the material. The aspect of limitation is also highlighted in another way. On one hand, it is an expression of not mastering a technique, that of origami folding art. At the same time, it is a skill to manipulate silver in such a way that it can be shaped by hand as if it were paper. Imitation, limitation, and the development of a skill summarized in one.
