Biography:

Margot Obbels is an Antwerp based artist and jewellery designer born 26 september 1997 in Antwerp, Belgium.

In 2021 she graduated with a bachelor degree in jewellery design. She currently attends the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp as a master student at the jewellery department.

Themes, such as social behaviour, mass media and identity are interests implemented in her work. Therefore the main purpose of her art is using her work as a medium to evoke, or rather stimulate a conversation where maker, viewer and wearer are equally as important as one another.

Collection concept:

Eurotag: ‘That thingy that hangs in the racks.’

I worked around the eurotag. An object that has so much potential, it would be a shame not to use it.

A shape so simple, yet it has so many layers.

The eurotag functions as a katalysator between mass production and mass consumption. It promotes the interaction between both concepts.

Before we can form an opinion, we must dwell upon it.

Taking the object out of its context, to allow the viewer to see this object in a different light.

I invite you to take a step back and look at the eurotag once more.
