Agora by David Sandu. 20th Anniversary @ The Museum of Recent Art.
Part of Romanian Jewelry Week 2025
On October 2nd, at 7:00 PM, Romanian Jewelry Week presents at the Museum of Recent Art (MARe) a solo exhibition by David Sandu, celebrating two essential milestones in his career: 20 years of creating and promoting contemporary author jewelry, and 15 years since founding Assamblage – The School of Contemporary Jewelry. Together with Ioana Andrei, his business partner from the very beginning of this artistic movement, David Sandu brings to the public a collection of works with profound symbolic and artistic resonance.
David Sandu is the first Romanian artist to choose contemporary jewelry as his main form of artistic expression. With a career spanning over two decades, he has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, earning recognition within the global jewelry design community. In 2010, he was awarded the title of Supplier to the Royal House of Romania – a distinction that affirms the excellence of his work.
Also in 2010, together with Ioana Andrei – and shortly after joined by designer and professor Andreia Gabriela Popescu – he founded Assamblage, the first private educational platform in Romania dedicated exclusively to contemporary jewelry design. The school has trained a new generation of creators and played a decisive role in developing this discipline in Romania. In 2020, David Sandu became co-founder (alongside Ioana Andrei and Valentina Buzămurgă) and curator of Romanian Jewelry Week, the most important event dedicated to jewelry in Romania, annually bringing together hundreds of artists from around the world.
This anniversary is marked by the launch of the AGORA jewelry collection, which offers a visual reflection on the public space as both concept and ideal: “We search. Across time and space, we search for the ideal place where the individual, ideas, and society can coexist in harmony – AGORA.” — David Sandu. AGORA, a word laden with cultural and philosophical meaning, becomes an artistic pretext to explore dualities such as unity and diversity, structure and detail, rules and freedom. Each piece is a three-dimensional metaphor of the dialogue between individual and community, form and meaning, past and present. Through architectural forms, unexpected volumes, and meticulous details, the AGORA collection invites introspection and the rediscovery of shared values in an increasingly fragmented society.
