Designer biography:

Yaxin Zhai's work focuses on the interdisciplinary research field of art healing and psychological defence mechanisms, through multimodal jewellery creation and embodied perception systems for art practice. Using the domestic field as a research sample, combining neuroaesthetics and psychodynamic theories, he explores the intervention path of wearable art on subconscious trauma. The creation integrates data-acoustic visualisation and integrated material experimentation, transforming women's intergenerational experience into a touchable, observable and interactive immersive art language.Bio-psychological data of family members are collected through a participatory fieldwork system, and topological reconstruction and topological transformation of flexible media (e.g., deconstructing the life narrative of stockings) are used to construct dynamic installations that are metaphorical psychological protective layers. The work integrates the three-dimensional healing models of tactile memory encoding, olfactory emotional arousal and visual symbol translation, combined with real-time physiological feedback technologies (e.g., cortisol monitoring and heart rate variability analysis), to form a closed-loop system of creation-experience-repair.

Collection concept:

This contemporary jewellery art series focuses on the creative transformation of psychological defence mechanisms in the context of contemporary art, with the family field as the core of the narrative. Using jewellery art as an emotional carrier, the creators construct an immersive multimodal perception system, exploring a new paradigm of psychological healing through cross-media art practice. The research adopts an interdisciplinary approach, combining data acoustics and visual art, using audio spectrum analysis technology to transform the soundscape data of childhood memories into visual art symbols, and realising the concrete presentation of subconscious mental pictures. During the creation process, the artist systematically collects bio-psycho-social data from three generations of female family members through participatory observation and in-depth interviews, and uses phenomenological methods to analyse the evolution of defence mechanisms in intergenerational interactions. The work chooses comprehensive materials to deconstruct and reorganise stockings, a flexible medium that carries women's life experiences, and constructs an art installation symbolising a psychological protective layer through topological techniques, as a metaphor for the mechanism of traumatic memory sequestration and release.
